A British man has escaped with his life after falling into a drunken sleep wedged between two carriages of a 190mph express train in Germany.

He was rescued when passengers at the Munich train station alerted police – five minutes before the train pulled out.

The man had spent the day drinking at the city’s Oktoberfest beer festival and tucked himself into the gap after forgetting the way to his hotel.

One officer said: “If he hadn’t been noticed he would certainly have fallen onto the track once the train got moving and would be dead by now.”
