For a band whose single Pompeii has just reached number two in the charts, it was quite surreal walking into a venue in the middle of a Southampton industrial estate. The venue, usually used for roller discos, was tonight host to Bastille.

“If you are too cool to sing along, then you’re at the wrong gig,” said Ed and as I look around at the young teenage girls, the middle aged couple and somebody’s dad taking photos, I don’t think any of them have any problems in singing along to every song this ginger chap has to play for us.
